Abstract

Health literacy is essential for rural communities to make informed, safe, and effective health decisions. However, the widespread use of digital media and social media has exposed rural populations to unverified health claims and medical misinformation. This community service program aimed to improve health literacy among residents of Wollangi Village through structured education on health information management. The program employed a four-stage intervention framework comprising identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The educational materials addressed four core dimensions of health literacy: accessing, understanding, appraising, and applying health information. Participants were also introduced to practical information verification guidelines based on the “5T” principles (Telusuri, Tinjau, Tanggal, Temukan, and Tanyakan). The interventions included interactive community workshops, digital health education, the distribution of educational materials, and capacity-building activities for local health cadres. Pre-test and post-test evaluations indicated improvements in participants’ health knowledge, critical appraisal of online health information, and use of accredited health sources. These findings highlight the role of health administration in fostering collaboration among stakeholders to promote sustainable health literacy in rural communities.
